With over 16 years of professional experience in the animation industry, Adam was also the UK's first certified Toon Boom expert. He's worked in TV and film, both as a hand-drawn and cut-out animator, as well as teaching in higher education and as an artist-in-residence. He started the Academy in 2017 and since then has trained thousands of creative folk how to rig and animate in Toon Boom Harmony.
What you'll learn in just over a month
In week 1 we start with a little introduction and a few basics, just to make sure we're all on the same page. From there we'll refresh your animation fundamentals and see how well you can apply these within the software.
Week 2 is very much about building on those core fundamentals and introducing some other tools to make your animating life easier. We'll look at deformers, props, templating and even how to mix rigged and hand-drawn animation.
Week 3 is all about applying our new-found skills to some acting. Yes, I'm talking character animation! This is the fun bit, where you really start to play with the idea of storytelling. It's why animation is so addictive!
In week of this animation course we're introduced to a new character. This time it's a full body rig with plenty of functionality. This one is all about big, bold action and strong poses!
Week 5 is where you really get a taste for production rigs. We'll set up a full acting scene with two characters, dialogue and some solid acting opportunities! There's no pressure for this week as it's a very time consuming project, but you should at least aim to get some experience under your belt with the rigs.
This course focuses on 2D cut-out character animation using rigs in Toon Boom Harmony, rather than hand-drawn animation.
No previous Toon Boom experience is required. This course is suitable for beginners and those with basic experience.
Practise animation principles with character rigs, then apply them to a short acting scene. The exercises can also help you build showreel material.
Toon Boom Animation 01 runs for 5 weeks. Final project feedback is available up to 8 weeks after the start date.

Watch the pre-recorded lessons whenever suits you, wherever you live. Tutor calls are private one-to-one sessions, booked by email at a time to suit you; there are no scheduled group calls.
Yes. A 30-day Toon Boom Harmony Premium licence is included. You’ll need your own licence to continue using the software after it expires.
Allow a minimum of 3 hours a week for lessons and practice. If you can, set aside extra time to repeat exercises and polish your project. Your experience and project scope will affect how much additional practice you need.
