What you'll learn in just over a month
In week 1 we start with a little introduction and a few basics, just to make sure we're all on the same page. From there we'll refresh your animation fundamentals and see how well you can apply these within the software.
Week 2 is very much about building on those core fundamentals and introducing some other tools to make your animating life easier. We'll look at deformers, props, templating and even how to mix rigged and hand-drawn animation.
Week 3 is all about applying our new-found skills to some acting. Yes, I'm talking character animation! This is the fun bit, where you really start to play with the idea of storytelling. It's why animation is so addictive!
In week of this animation course we're introduced to a new character. This time it's a full body rig with plenty of functionality. This one is all about big, bold action and strong poses!
Week 5 is where you really get a taste for production rigs. We'll set up a full acting scene with two characters, dialogue and some solid acting opportunities! There's no pressure for this week as it's a very time consuming project, but you should at least aim to get some experience under your belt with the rigs.

With over 16 years of professional experience in the animation industry, Adam was also the UK's first certified Toon Boom expert. He's worked in TV and film, both as a hand-drawn and cut-out animator, as well as teaching in higher education and as an artist-in-residence. He started the Academy in 2017 and since then has trained thousands of creative folk how to rig and animate in Toon Boom Harmony.
This course focuses on the popular 2D cut-out rigged style. This course does not teach the process of pure hand-drawn animation.
The main aims of the course are to teach you how to apply the principles of animation within the software, mastering the mechanics of movements and applying your skills to full character rigs. The final project is a short acting scene, demonstrating your understanding of the software and the animation principles. There is a chance to produce several demo reel pieces from the tasks you'll be given.
This course runs for 5 weeks from the start date. I will provide feedback on your final project up to 8 weeks from the start date.
